I wonder sometimes to what extent perceived differences between men and women on this issue comes down to just two things - neither of which being a differential in desire.
One being societal expectations, obvs. It's okay for a guy to have more than one partner, even cheat. Its expected, for reasons that must only be clear to male cheaters.
The other being specific to being female. If I tell a girl we're not going to be exclusive, or I tell her we aren't after some fact of her thinking we were..what's she gonna do? Cry about it? Shit talk about me to other people? Slash a tire? Don't get me wrong. Plenty of girls could absolutely fuck up plenty of boys - but for the most part, they don't even try. If you're a female though. Maybe a murder. Multiply that by however many men are in the "harem" situation.
I can believe that at least some number of guys genuinely want it - I assume a similar number of females do too..but I bet more men than do say they do, and fewer females than do say they do - for reasons that run the gamut.
