I don’t know (or understand) all the details. But in France there is this populist “National Rally” political party led by Mrs. Marine Lepen wich is openly receiving funds from Moscow. So Mrs Lepen used Mr. Macron’s speech very cleverly saying that her party would never agree to sending French soldier to die to liberate the Donbas.
The German Olaf Sholz also seems to have overreacted. The way I understand it, this is mainly about sending Western expertise to Ukraine to support them in using all the Western equipment against Russia and/or maybe some other expertise related troops like support in logistical, medical and/or demining issues etc.
So Mr. Macron just said what somebody had to say at some point in this conflict. Don’t you agree?
Here are some comments of A British Admiral (Tony Radakin) on a potential Russia vs. NATO escalation.

In such a situation Russia would be outnumbered in terms of military equipment, aircrafts, navy vessels and manpower.
They would of course be able to do some nuclear damage (None of us wants to even dream of a possibility like that). But without some sort of surprise support from China, Putin and his team would die of be tried like the Nazi’s being tried in Nuremberg in October 1945 within a few months or perhaps even within weeks.
So the nuclear threats that are being repeated by Moscow is only a reminder that we must look for ways to reduce the number of these weapons in the world.
