Most people do not think about others all that much, for they're too wrapped up in their own lives. It's an interesting psychological perspective to be the opposite, like us.

I'm not sure how some people can be considered "thoughtful" by others when they don't even think of their old friends.

One might say that thinking of old friends (at least to the extent you seem to) is living in the past. Not healthy.

Also, there are many more ways to be ‘thoughtful’ than just waxing nostalgic.
