Knock on Any Door (1949) - schmaltzy courtroom melodrama starring Bogart and several familiar faces from The Twilight Zone. A sappy yet entertaining look at the pre-beat ethos, the story among the first to be adapted to film by an African-American author. Notable for its gritty depiction of skid row and the role of poverty and the prison system for building criminality, it can't help but be ridiculous and over the top. Worthy of its 90 minutes but more silly than serious.
