1) Things would be very easy for all of us if there was some eastern or western Satan outside of us. In fact I really envy those who think the issue is that simple.
 
“Satan” is our own ego basically. It’s us. And then there are methods. For this people it’s as simple as submitting to a number of rituals so that in the end they get to party forever in the afterlife.
 
For me it’s more like understanding some of the inner issues so that I can realize some positive improvements for myself (right here right now).

None of us met the prophet in person. As a deist (because of personal reason) I am tempted to see him (and all other great spiritual teachers) as people who were vibrating at a higher frequency in comparison to ordinary people especially the people of that region in that time of history. And it really doesn’t get any lower. Lawrence of Arabia describes 19th century Arabs as “proud people who are much attached to their traditions”, in other words noble savages. The kind of people with whom it was better to save a bullet for yourself if you were their enemy and you were about to be captured by them (no offence to anyone ).
 
And that’s the early 20th century. As I said, we don’t really know what was happening there in the 6th century AD. But I made peace with the fact that some people prefer to see the prophet as some sort of cult leader who did nothing but subdue people with his ideology.
 
That’s because this is not entirely false. There were actually 6 Caliphs after the prophet himself who were mainly spiritual leaders who ruled us for some 30 years. Than the Umayyad Dynasty came. And that was what you said it is. They starved the followers of the last Caliph (Ali) to death, mainly to gain the political power that came with religion. Schism between Sunnites and Shiites also goes back to that event.
 
So I also happen to agree with this approach:
- Yes, Islam (like many other spirituals teachings) were turned into a tool of political cohesion since the very beginning. Objectively: That’s what religion has been in the past, and is still understood in that way today.
 
- But as I said: As someone who is into these spiritual teachings. I believe that the original core of religion (any mainstream religion in this planet) has nothing to do with this. As I said, it’s this inner journey that you take within yourself. Then there are these details.
 
And most of these are logical if you understand it. Like in my country there is this “Let the stray dogs live” movement all over the country. 200,000 people are getting rubies shots every year because of this. In social media there are people who want to lynch you because you might have said something like “Why are stray dogs living in our streets like it’s their god-damn house or something?”.

So I find it very interesting that there is a “Tie them in a diagonal way from their hands and from their legs” clause (for humans) in the Quran. This means that we love our God but we are not completely stupid either.
