The difference between Marx and Rand is that while both were wrong about the solutions, Rand was also wrong about the problems. Marx's writing on the problems with capitalism are still some of the best and most insightful thoughts on that particular economic system.
His problem (one all too common among 19th century thinkers) was that he was a utopian at heart and thought perfection could be achieved.
Karl Marx was an absolute genius when it came to guessing wrong about the little things. You know - history, human nature, economic forces, etc.
