While I'm not proof for every weather disaster, I chose this place as potentially safe against most calamities. It has even survived two major earthquakes. One in '71 and the next in '94. I see people buying homes near oil fields, downstream of hydro (and other) dams and even in old riverbeds. Not expecting much here, but one really never knows. Try one's best, is all I can say.
I was born and raised in SO. CAL., and went through both earthquakes. The Northridge quake was one of the reasons we moved our family to Washington state late in '94. Nature can get you basically anywhere you live, sometimes you see it coming, and other times it's a rude awakening.
If/when the San Andreas fault lets go, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near there. It's long overdue for a major quake, maybe tomorrow, or maybe in 10 years? Nobody knows.
I hate to bust your bubble, but have you seen information on the Cascadia Subduction Zone?
