All this talk of messing around with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and on and on made me curious. There is a one-time payment made at the time of death to the surviving spouse (or children) of $255.00. This is the same amount I got when my first husband died in 1984. That $255.00 was better than a sharp stick in the eye forty years ago but not by much...now it's just a slap in the face. WTH are you going to make a dent in with final expenses with $255.00? Unless your plan is to buy a shovel and dig a grave out in the woods yourself.
