The true funny part is that i learned that trick from a Southern Baptist Pastor. He sat us down as a teen group with the purpose of teaching us to be 100% fundamentalists to follow EVERYTHING in the bible. He opened up the book and said "thou shalt not covet...well, I want to covet, so I dont need this" and he ripped the page out. The real believers in the group gasped. I just sat and watched in disbelief as the preacher tore page after page out of the bible. It was the first time a preacher had EVER reached me in such a profound way.
His argument was FOR the bible. That if you arent following the bible word for word, you may as well be tearing the pages out of it.
His demonstration impressed me. In fact, I would gladly point back to that very day as the beginning of my transformation to atheism. I read the entire bible privately, page for page, again after that demonstration (I had already gone through the entire bible once in bible study and found much of it to be pompous tomfoolery). I realized that if I were to rip out the pages that I didnt agree with, then I would not have much of a book left. I became an agnostic, and stayed one for a few years.
A southern baptist preacher, on accident, and in the name of promoting fundamentalism, started me down the road to Atheism.
