When I was readying to deploy for Desert Storm, we had reservists come in to backfill for us. They were horsing around on the flightline in front of the fire station, and our assistant chief was trying, futilely, to call them into order. I saw this, stood at attention, and channeling my drill sgt, SSgt Gibson, called out "Reservists, fall in!"
They were in a rough line in about fifteen seconds. Chief Ostrom came over to me and patted me on the back -- "Gossett, you should have been a DI."
A command voice is one that brooks no argument. "I'm in charge here" has to sound real, you have to believe it -- or at least make them think you do.
