Certain people go to extremes for attention, especially rich people and celebrities. Attention can be good for their social standing and careers, as a kind of advertising. Fashion caters to such people. Then there are also the artsy types who are looking for weird ways to "express themselves."
Of course others try to avoid attention.
If I stood out in a crowd, you wouldn't notice me.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
