(May 11, 2026 at 10:47 am)Ivan Denisovich Wrote: The EU is poised to approve sanctions against so-called violent Israeli settlers, after Hungary’s new government signaled it would no longer block the measure, top diplomat Kaja Kallas said Monday ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
As first reported in Playbook, ministers are expected to reach a political agreement on the long-stalled sanctions, which former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had repeatedly blocked.
But a breakthrough now appears possible after Péter Magyar was sworn in as Hungary’s prime minister last Saturday. Magyar has signaled he would not stand in the way of broadly supported sanction packages.
Hopefully it will be only first step in bringing this genocidal regime to order.
I’m going to comment on this comment. Today there was these two teenagers who attacked the biggest mosque in the city of San-Diego / California. They said there would be many victims if the the security guard hadn’t sacrificed himself so selflessly (the man was a father of eight). They shot two other guys and then they shot themselves.
So 1) These two guys were victims themselves. As a person from the old world I have problem in understanding how kids in the USA still have access to lethal weapons.
2) There seems to be a problem with our thinking (and this is the part that relates to the message above). Not all Jews are Jewish supremacists who want to eradicate everyone from their “promised land” and start waiting for the Messiah who will come down from heaven above and make everybody feel high. And not all Arabs (Or Muslims) are goat ….ers who like to highjack planes and blow themselves up everywhere to destroy “the enemies of the Prophet”.
/ These are stereotypes. It was used by Nazis to make everyone hate the Jews and dehumanize the remaining 90% of Jews who had nothing to do with the stereotype they were trying to create. And I am also confident that 90% of the people in the San Diego mosque had nothing to do with the America hating / terror organization image of the Muslims they were trying to create.
3) I am starting to believe that it’s not “passé” at all to teach young people some of the most basic positive values we have in this world. These do not need to be “Christian” or even “Theist” values. Similar value can be found in secular philosophy or even basic republican values. I’m saying it’s not “passé” because other people who lack all sorts of values seem to be getting to those kids before we do. A similar event happened here in the city of Marash on April 15th:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Oniki...l_shooting
- It’s like the same story all over again:
a) Dumb guy leaves his gun where kids can find them
b) Dumb kid (usually with psychiatric issues) has been exposed to violent and/or hateful content (usually online) and shoots others before shooting himself.
Also: The impact is usually not limited to the victims. All of them have parents, brothers, friends, kids of their own etc.
There will be a type when we will have to deal with this hate issue that seems to have become an endemic issue of our modern societies
