These people are older than the Civil Rights Act and grew up in the shadow of the entrenchment of racism among opponents of the Civil Rights Act. Busineses closed rather than serve black people. Jim Crow tried to reassert itself. And now, people who grew up in families opposed to civil rights are making up one of the largest and most stalwart voting blocks dedicated to Trump. Racism has been at the root of MAGA and it always has been.
