Well, I suppose you would have had to be there. Perhaps the slaves punched in and worked an 8 to 5 day the way we do now. Then they went home and did as they wished. So perhaps 'slaves' was just a euphemism just as 'wage slave' is today. Who is to say who was owned really, the 'slave' who did the work or the slave 'owner' who had to find work for them everyday when they showed up with their lunch pails.
