Then I watched "Carnal Knowledge," which also has a main character who is seriously depressed. I guess it's interesting to see how this movie's premise was later remade countless times, especially in the '90s with TV shows like Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Friends: a character who objectifies people that he dates.
Why would depression not be a subject for comedy?
As for the other, it's just art imitating life. Sure, Jonathan was a shit stain of a human being, but that's people for you.
