It becomes a question of "staying power." As more and more of the fascist nutbags drop out ( Cain and Bachmann are already gone ) the lunatic fringe will be less divided against the guy they really hate: Romney.
Romney consistently draws 30% among republicans. He'd probably do better in a general election but that won't get him the nomination. He has to win among the crazies and when the alternatives start to drop out it will be the last man standing who Romney will have to beat. I suspect Perry is next to go. Perry voters are not going to Romney.
