Santorum insists that gay marriage will destroy the family, "the very foundation of our country." Lamenting the scandal of pedophile priests, he wrote in a Catholic publication: "When the culture is sick, every element in it becomes infected. While it is no excuse for this scandal, it is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm."

It's a familiar line of argument among religious conservatives, and it has the virtues of clarity, simplicity and plausibility. But there is one notable weakness in his case: a mass of evidence that amounts to a thunderous refutation.

This is why I sometimes feel so discouraged as an American. So many here, a substantial part of the voting population, are living in some kind of alternate reality where facts don't matter.

Im not suprised. Of course he doesnt blame the conservative church. He blames the liberals around them for the church raping their kids.

Dont worry, Santorum hasnt a chance in hell.

I disagree, Rev.

It becomes a question of "staying power." As more and more of the fascist nutbags drop out ( Cain and Bachmann are already gone ) the lunatic fringe will be less divided against the guy they really hate: Romney.

Romney consistently draws 30% among republicans. He'd probably do better in a general election but that won't get him the nomination. He has to win among the crazies and when the alternatives start to drop out it will be the last man standing who Romney will have to beat. I suspect Perry is next to go. Perry voters are not going to Romney.

Last week my mother-in-law said that she thought Santorum was a good choice for president. It was all I could do to keep from throwing up in my mouth.

Santorum appears to be suffering from what I call "conservative angst," or at least pandering to those who do. We've all come across conservatives who express dismay at the state of the country as they see it: The country is totally immoral, homosexuality is accepted & running rampant, people laugh and mock Christians, our movies & TV shows are filled with sex (notice how they rarely mention violence?), the country is becoming more atheistic, People are having sex everywhere and teen pregnancy is accepted as normal, kids aren't allowed to pray in school but they're being taught how to have gay sex, and Christians aren't even allowed to say "Merry Christmas."

Not to mention that now there's a liberal darkie Muslim in the White House.

The fact is that conservatives see themselves losing their grasp on power over the country and there's little they can do about it.

Santorum is just horrible. The fun part is putting his name in google or yahoo and the link that Chuck mentions is first or second each time which is AWESOME!

What's funny is that my state (South Carolina) Republican primary is on January 21st and it's an open primary so all registered voters can vote (not just Republicans). So, do I vote for Santorum as he'd never beat Obama or vote for Romney in case (oh dear god) we end up with a Republican president? Romney is by far the least insane of the choices.

First how can he equate homosexuality with pedophilia, they are two different mental conditions. One is the attraction of the same sex, the other is attraction to a prepubescent human. A person can be afflicted with both but they cannot be the cause of each other. It's not like straight men go, well I'm tired of adult women, time to go hit up the elementary school.
The church people knew they could use their power as a trusting person to fulfill their homo/pedo desires. I can only bet it has been going on for years and years. Perhaps "witches" spoke out against it, we really don't know how long the church has been a bastion of pedophilia.

Bottom line. These are non-issues anyways. Sexual preference has no place in law books or political discourse, its a way of keeping the talk on stupid social issues, and not really what is causing this country to fail.
