All Science has to offer is the realisation that we are about as insignificant as it is possible to get, that in cosmological terms we are no different to a virus(and afterall we are just evolved virus')

Religion on the other hand, tells you that you are best buddies with the creator of the universe, and it it hard to get much more important than that.

So is it any wonder that the credulous and weak willed turn away from the truth. It is rather unpleasant compared to the alternative.
