White supremacists love their mamas. I happen to love a lot of things.

Gang affiliation tattoos are the stupidest fucking thing a human being can do when it comes to tattoos. Have you ever seen American History X? People change. Tattoos don't.

This is why I'll never get a tattoo.
But I'm fairly certain that I'm now a person which has a set of firmly set thoughts and beliefs, however, I do not need to ink them on my skin, where most people will never get a chance to see them in the first place.
Gang tattoos, how stupid they might be, are the only practical use for tattoos outside of the general looks I can think of.
No man that I know that had a tattoo wore one to simply bring across a message.
At least, if they did, I certainly had no knowledge of it.
