Welcome to the forum H.
If you are looking for a community of people you should try Meet up groups. I don't know whether they have these groups outside the us and I don't know from where you hail so I don't know if this is feasible for you. Meet up groups are (I think) nation wide in the U.S. There are Atheist groups but there are other groups as well, things like hiking biking hobbies etc. You should try it.
You could also join a Unitarian Universalist church. They welcome atheists. Personally I can't stand the church but other people have found a home there. For me the sermons are boring and there are a lot of people there who are too wishy washy in head. I go to a theology class with a bunch of U.U.'s. That's about as much of it as I can stand, but to each his own, you might find a better experience there.

I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise
