As to whether it is a "problem", or whether it is too pessimistic about human nature, I would say no. If you look around yourself, it would rather be pessimistic to say that "everything is alright", because it would be the same as saying that you don't have an ideal for a higher and more perfect and harmonious state of being.
And because it is also a Christian doctrine that we as humans are beings made in the image of God, namely as rational and intellectual souls and bodies. Such an optimistic anthropology certainly is not affirmed in an atheistic worldview.
