Speaking of 1984, he wasn't actually writing about some society in the future, it wasn't one of those "prophets of science fiction" moments, he was actually making a criticism about governments of his own time by using sci fi and a future society as a narrative device. Isn't that disheartening? To think that as far as he was concerned, 1984 was already there, and look where we are now..lol.
