Know a LOT of Muslims do you? Spent a LOT of time a Muslim country have you? Read the Qur'an? Familiar with Islamic philosophy? From exactly where have you gained your deep knowledge of Islam and Muslims?. There are a lot of Muslims in my area and I have Muslim neighbours.
Are you a bigot? Well,yes,if you have a fear and hatred of a large group of people ( in this case a BILLION) based on stereotyping and not supported by evidence. It's no different at all from saying you are afraid of Christians .Some of the lunar Christian right scare the pants off me,but not ALL Christians. I actually admire what I call "small c" Christians; people who give witness to their faith by the way they live,and who don't preach at me or try to convert me. I've met a lot of people like that.
YES there are lot of naive, gullible Muslims,some are pychos,some are just ruthless men using religion for political ends. (terrorism is about politics). That Muslim women in SOME parts of the world follow tribal modesty rules which were custom for over 1000 years before Islam is not a reflection of the place of women in Islam overall.. Women continue to be subjugated to some degree in ALL of the Abrahamic faiths.This may be due to the innate patriarchal nature of those faiths.
I do NOT want a mosque, church,temple ,school,supermarket,gas station, stadium or wharehouse anywhere NEAR my house. They are ALL visual pollutants [to me] and reduce property values. Brothels are fine, they're usually very discrete. Had one in nearby street for a couple of years before I realised.
Am I a bigot? Of course in some things, I can't control the way I feel.I CAN control what I say and what I do. I try to face and deal with my prejudices. My success rate is less than 100%.
