As Min pointed out, there are no active volcanoes in the Egypt/Sinai region. At first glance that would seem to cast doubt on the hypothesis.
However, there are a few volcanoes in the Mediterranean, and as it appears that the biblical accounts were likely born out of oral tradition, its possible that its borrowed folklore from elsewhere.
This is the crux of the matter...the bible IS an amalgamation of "oral traditions" of the Levant and Mediterranean ...if memory serves there is also a "Fire God" in the Sumerian/ Mesopotamian pantheon?
Essentially ....the bible is a lie as the "True Word of God" a fake if you will.

No. The "power" of a volcano is well understood. I could be wrong the the Fiji Island are a result from plate tectonics and volcanic activity ...still are. The abrahamic god had nothing to do with it.
