I've heard the Ezekiel meteor theory before. Possible but one needs to wield Occam's Razor here. You don't need cosmic bombardments when earthquakes will do the job. As Chuck says, the Jordan Valley is a connection of the Great Rift Valley which is the Arabian and African tectonic plates coming together. Quakes are frequent and now that there are Israeli scientists actually studying the ground there is an observation that the ME is due for another major earthquake.
