We're social animals who depend on each other for survival. A bias to go along with the group on matters that can't be proven one way or another probably has value in terms of getting to pass your genes along. People who were raised theist and completely abandon that are the exception, not the norm.

I have very religious parents and went to a school where they taught you stories in the Bible like they were historical fact yet when I grew up and learnt about real science and history I completely rejected those beliefs, and I know other people who did the same.
I might have a lot more understanding for theists if I hadn't hadn't had a fairly religious upbrining but the fact is I just see them as stupid and awkward for holding onto their beliefs in the face of all the evidence to the contrary.

Well sorry but thats what I think of them in all honesty

What else would you logically call people who believe that the Adam and Eve story and the story of Noah's Ark literally happened and that the Earth is 6000 years old, and will simply ignore any and all evidence that comes to the contrary.
