Actually our missile guidance systems are made here in the US, China lacks the manufacturing capabilities to manufacture microchips efficiently and cheaply at the level the US military needs.
Our military is a runaway train of expenditure and political power. The funny thing is, to say anything bad about it suddenly invokes the "YOU DON'T SUPPORT DEH TROOPS" rednecks...and yet in truth? The average Army soldier uses equipment that is largely outdated. The M4 carbine? The M16 assault rifle? Outclassed pretty much by every fucking assault rifle in existence in every way. Why do they keep purchasing them? Because Armalite has a sweet deal set up with the US military and a bunch of their execs have top generals in their pockets. The Interceptor Armor they're developing? Little better than kevlar. The helmets? Incapable of stopping even a .223 rifle round. The average foot soldier does not benefit at all from increased spending. If anything, when the military is forced to trim its budget, it stops buying the overpriced, ridiculously-high-maintenance-cost stuff that will NEVER be used, and tends to focus more on the foot soldiers and their combat effectiveness. Right now we're seeing the US military stuck in pork-mode and nobody's made any effort whatsoever to fix it.
There are only three things we need to invest in; foot soldiers, naval power, and missile defense systems. Nothing else. All the "new jets" and shit are NOT necessary. At all. US military tech is 30 years ahead of China's. The last fucking thing we need is to get involved in an arms race with them.
