Im sure its been heard on here before and even to me it sounds chiche but I like to think of myself as spiritual and not religious. For me religion is for people who are afraid to go to hell and spirituality is for people who have been there and are greatful to be out.
Of course my differing view, religion seems to me as something for people who fear death. The promise of an afterlife once you are long dead. A comforting belief to make you feel safe and assured. How sure are you that you'll wake up after you die? Picture yourself on your death bed and you slowly and steadily lose conciousness, how sure are you that you'll wake up in another place and not just cease to exist?
Heaven (a concept of man) that has some truth or a complete lie to bring a sense of comfort? As a young lad I remember learning that I will die one day. Before then I really thought I'd live forever here on earth. It scared the hell out of me. But I adapted to the knowledge and it no longer affects me.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
