Do you think that god told Pope Urban II to call a Holy Crusade? In what way would our previous presidents political gaffs (now rightly seen as naive and baseless, even by someone of faith such as yourself) be different from Urban's call to arms (then perhaps truly believed in)?
You doubt that he spoke to god, but why? Does god speak to anyone? If you are free to doubt whether god spoke to this specific person then why am I not free to doubt whether god spoke to Abraham? If you feel that your doubts are well founded upon what basis would you dismiss my own?
Christianity is the way of "whatever believers assert at any given time" this has included holy war (and in many places, it still does). Recent atrocities? I'm sure we'll spend days trying to determine exactly what constitutes an "atrocity". It isn't exactly hard to find examples of the abuses suffered by unfortunate people under the guise of "religion". Religion -is- a boogeyman, I don't have to go looking to find one.
Rythm- You ask me why you are not free to doubt whether god spoke to Abraham? Good sir you are free to doubt that. Doubt isnt always a bad thing. It would be a bad thing to hear something and not even think about it having bought it hook, line and sinker. Dont make the mistake of thinking that I just dismiss your doubts. I think of WHY you doubt, see if I agree and make an informed decision for myself.
Of course I cant say for sure if ole Bushie talked to God or God talked to bush. The reason I say i "doubt" that he did is because Bush dosent really come off as somebody who walks the walk as reflected by his politics. I could be wrong there. Like i said its a doubt and not something I know for sure.
Your claim that christianity is the "way of whatever believers assert at any given time" is false. its true that it is the way of people who use it for their own gain. Like I said before, the flames of hell will burn hotter for those offenders moreso than anybody. Because they are responsible for decieving many and leading countless others astray.
The way of true christianity is to be like christ. That can only be done one way. For us it means To love God with all our heart, mind, body, soul and strength. And to love your neighbor as yourself. that sums it up in a nutshell. No boogey man in that.
Islam has killed millions in the last decade, lets focus all attention on Christianity!
