Ever experienced bigotry from the religious for being atheist?

I corrected him and said "no faith." He said some shit about creationism and I went back to reading my book without saying a word. About 30 minutes later the supervisor and the owner fired me claiming they eliminated my job. Strangest part is that this was a laboratory where people should have an education.

WHAT?! That's horrible! Come to Finland to work, here it is illegal to sack someone because of their faith, or lack thereof Wink

& what ingenious comebacks have you ever given them in return when they began shoving their beliefs down your throats? Big Grin

1. I try to see the person and dismiss religion. If the person is nice, I try not to mention any religious around him or her, or if I do, make sure that they're up for debate. If the person is obnoxious despite not concentrating on the beliefs, I avoid them altogether.

2. If they still insist talking to you, say something unexpected. For instance, when an old lady shoved the Watchtower in my face and pointed to a headline saying: "Do you want to live your life without suffering?", I merely answered: "Thank you, but I do not suffer in any way." She was gone a second later. Big Grin

When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
