Ever experienced bigotry from the religious for being atheist?

I corrected him and said "no faith." He said some shit about creationism and I went back to reading my book without saying a word. About 30 minutes later the supervisor and the owner fired me claiming they eliminated my job. Strangest part is that this was a laboratory where people should have an education. WHAT?! That's horrible! Come to Finland to work, here it is illegal to sack someone because of their faith, or lack thereof (April 23, 2012 at 3:25 pm)icantstandfundies Wrote: How did you deal with the ignorant & self-righteous fundie types? 1. I try to see the person and dismiss religion. If the person is nice, I try not to mention any religious around him or her, or if I do, make sure that they're up for debate. If the person is obnoxious despite not concentrating on the beliefs, I avoid them altogether. 2. If they still insist talking to you, say something unexpected. For instance, when an old lady shoved the Watchtower in my face and pointed to a headline saying: "Do you want to live your life without suffering?", I merely answered: "Thank you, but I do not suffer in any way." She was gone a second later. When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
I remember when I was about 14 me and my friends were talking about some world issues and I said something about being more open minded. My friend responded matter of factly, "Watch out, thinking like that you might become an atheist". At the time I didn't know whether to think he was joking or being serious. I couldn't care less who these atheists were, but really the pure indoctrination and bigotry really stands out now.

I've experienced it when I mentioned actual Christianity to people preaching bigotry and was called an Atheist among other things.
When it came out (my mom was snooping on my FB and found I was a member of an atheist group, even though I had made efforts to not give her the privacy rights to it) that I was an atheist, my mother threw a fit. I was told not to talk about it. I told her that I wasn't going to lie to people.
A bit further down the road, my crazy fundie aunt turned a political discussion into a religious pissing match. My father called to yell at me about respecting the family and their beliefs while simultaneously telling me I couldn't express mine. He told me various family members had been calling about my views. The funny thing is, my father told me to call someone next time they picked a fight with my on FB. Yeah. Call them like they had the balls to call me. My fundie aunt was the only one to display dissatisfaction with my lack of belief, so my family is being even more sneaky. Fuck them, man. I'll make my own family.
Did Religious Studies at college and had a couple of fundie types I used to just take the piss out of the bible and use ruthless logic. Some of them just laughed it off but a couple hated me Also got told I am going to hell quite a few time to which I would just sarcastically say how nice god is. I also got kicked out of a class for a disagreement about wither or not the snake from the garden was the devil or not XD
I went to a catholic school and we had compulsory religion classes. It came up that I didn't believe in catholicism and my teacher subjected me to a look and a sniff. Very quickly, two other guys in the class rallied in support of me and between the three of us we schooled the rest of the class and the fucking teacher about the lunacy of catholic beliefs. The teacher never had a whole lot of time for me after that.
"Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds." Einstein When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down happy. They told me I didn't understand the assignment. I told them they didn't understand life. - John Lennon (May 18, 2012 at 5:27 pm)Insanity x Wrote: Did Religious Studies at college and had a couple of fundie types I used to just take the piss out of the bible and use ruthless logic.
