Well, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your phrasing, but maybe this wiki page on cognition will explain what it is you're looking for.

Cognition is not what I'm asking nor is it what you said. You specifically said our thoughts are about something, I asked how are they about something. What don't you understand?
