RE: Parents freak out when their child announces he's an atheist

It sucks to hear about things like this. I didn't know that horror stories like this happened when I first became an atheist, so I just outright told my religious parents without even considering how bad of a reaction they might have to the news.
Luckily, they were apprehensive but accepting. They're pretty much fine with it now. They're actually more of deists than anything else at this point. My "coming out" has decreased their trust in organized religion and the bible, at least.
It's always unnerving to me to be reminded of how different my life could be right now if my parents had been fundies, if they hadn't been so accepting.
