It occurs to me, that there are two options, given the experiences of NDE's.
Either ALL afterlife beliefs are true, or none of them are.
It's all very Terry Pratchett Discworld, the afterlife appears to be exactly what each person expects it to be based on their currently held belief.
I'd hold more stock in NDE's if more people came back saying "We've got it all wrong Guys, Thor's up there, and he's pissed".
