You are not being prevented from discussing anything. If you have a problem with someone/someone's post in a thread, just ignore them. You can use the button or do what I do (scroll on past).

I believe we should not bar minorities from being able to discuss subjects important to them and no/few others. One does not retain a subject by banning its mention and discussion in all threads.
Already, if a derail continues long/far enough: it gets split. How is this not ideal for you? If you run into a thread and you want to discuss the OP: simply report the post that you think need to be split... and the staff will make an executive decision from there. What else could you possibly want?
