Believing doesn't make one mentally healthy otherwise Jim Jones was sane. Believing doesn't make one mentally healthy otherwise these "normal" people wouldn't burn girls and women and accuse them of being witches. So if merely believing made someone "normal" Salem Mass says otherwise.
There has never been one human being that has ever lived or is living now that will 100 percent of their lives be always happy or always sad. If you have ever mourned a loved one or a pet or loss of a job or friend, YOU WERE NOT HAPPY at that very moment.
So do not sit there and lie to yourself and to us and say everything in your life is a Hallmark card, That is a flat out lie.
It is people like you when people who believe who get sad, you victimize them even more by selling them a crutch when you yourself nor the preacher on Sunday are not trained doctors of any kind.
I have found plenty of Joy in my life. I was joyful when I graduated high school. I was joyful with my first kiss and my first cat. I was joyful when I got married.
I have also had sadness in my life. I lost my dad when I was 13. My mother was raped when I was in high school. I have had all my grandparents die. I was scared shitless when my mother flipped her van. I was joyful to find out she was going to be ok.
I have a new cat now that when I adopted him ran up to my leg and hugged me as a kitten. He melted my heart. And I also find great joy spending time with my mom, and talking to my friends on line and writing my poetry.
LIFE is never all good or all bad and I DO find it highly insulting that you would presume that anyone outside your label is incapable of being happy.
So do yourself a favor and get off your high horse unless you want us to knock you off of it. No one is special, not you not me, and every human goes through the same range of good times and bad times.
Part of why people go from believing to being atheists, not all, but many, because it may be only one piece of the journey is realizing that you are not special. So even if that was not your intent, I am quite sure there are many atheists that became atheist can say that it wasn't until they got knocked into the reality that they were not special, would still be believers.
But what if you were trying to change their mind. I think when one cares about their fellow human they make the attempt, that certainly is what many believers claim. I understand their intent so maybe we should give them credit for understanding ours instead of assuming no theist can ever handle being debated with.
I do care because I don't like seeing someone waste their time on something they cant even prove exists. And I feel since this is the only planet I live on and religious people fight over it and could get me killed, I'd be a fool not to care.

Oh, get over yourself, GC. You don't have normal minds and lives. You have weak minds that need a psychological crutch to get through life, and somehow you think that makes you superior. Atheists struggle hard with existential questions, often times leading to things like depression, but that's what happens when you don't delude yourself with a magical father figure in the sky looking out for your best interests.
Seriously, get the fuck over yourself, and stop touting your psychological superiority by labeling yourself as normal. It reeks of arrogance and ignorance.
(You see, Brian? I swore at and insulted him, but the difference here is I'm not trying to change GC's mind. I'm just letting him know what a goddamn idiot he is being.)
