Nope. Technically it would make one live stock..

Quote:You say that there are or were no laws concerning the 'rights' of commodities. I say that animals are commodities
Commodity:
any unprocessed or partially processed good, as grain, fruits, and vegetables, or precious metals. [/qipte]
A raw material or primary agricultural product that can be bought and sold, such as copper or coffee.
A useful or valuable thing, such as water or time.
Synonyms:
goods - merchandise - article - ware - product - item
Just because they are afraid to use the word "humans" does not mean that word does not apply in context.

Quote:Back to the slavery issue: The Bible condones slavery,
Yes, but what was happening in America during colonial times or more over what was going on leading up the the civial war was not "condoned slavery" as outlined by scripture. "to kill a Mocking bird" provided scripture that shows what was orginally deemed slavery, was NOT what was going on in America. what was happening in America was 'slavery' by name only.
I'm familiar with the argument....there's more to it than you mentioned but for anyone else reading this reply let me just say that it's more bullshit along the same lines. It's really sad. Fortunately it's not scary anymore because almost everyone can discern the bullshit in the argument. I'm glad that those who believe that bullshit no longer have any power and are shot down whenever they speak up

Quote:and we now think that any form of slavery, whether the slaves had some rights or not, is bad.
Not all of us.

Quote:But the Bible also condones selling your own daughter into sex slavery. Our society considers this nightmarishly horrible and immoral. Here's a wonderful link about slavery and the Bible and the rights these commodities had. http://blessedatheist.com/2010/11/03/god...nd-profit/ . I'm not impressed, I also note that female slaves had less rights than male slaves. Her body was the property of her master who could do whatever he wanted to do to her against her will. This is just sick. Where can I puke?
Thanks to the slaves that built this country, anywhere your self righteousness demands it.
Bottom line the rules concerning female slaves were their for the women who were destined to be slaves. like it or not Slaves were nessary. To trivialize the roles slaves play in the foundation of any 'great nation' is to ignore the vital contributions made by the unsung men and women (and their children) who never see the big picture, or what all of their blood sweat and tears paid for. You are living in the lap of luxuary as the result of slave labor. so when you puke try not to puke on all of those who put you in such a position trivialize their lives their contributions to History.

Question to other members of the forum: Is this guy a poe or just an asshole who wants to believe that that the Bible isn't as nasty as it is?
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise
