The thing that actually depresses me most is the vengefulness of the some of the general public, whose notion of closure seems to involve inflicting more suffering. This has nothing to do with helping people and everything to do with sating their own desires. Putting aside extenuating circumstances - which there may or may not be - think about the suffering the shooter's family will endure. It's much more productive, I think, to turn that energy toward helping the families involved (including the shooter's) in whatever form they need it. Instead of brainstorming creative ways to torture the shooter, why not come up with ways to help the victims and their families?
