I caught a flight with a friend of mine, who is extremely anxious on planes.
He took a good dose of valium and was high as a kite (in the best way possible). Definitely helped him.
I do think he took 3 times the recommended dose though...
I've been given both Valium and Ativan prior to anxiety inducing medical procedures and the effect has varied from a state of calm to knocking me out completely. I've also been prescribed clonazepam as a sleep aid.
On the other hand, I have taken both xanax and clonazepam for anxiety and panic attacks and in those cases it just takes the edge off and helps me calm myself.
In my experience, the amount of sedation and impairment is affected by my anxiety level. YMMV, and not making any recommendations.
