In 1988, in response to the British government's criticism of homosexuality, Mustaine said: "More power to them. It says in the Bible that men should not lay with men like they lay with women. I mean I don't wanna fuck up and not go to heaven."[33]

In an answer to a question about Judas Priest having an overt homosexual image, "I don't wanna talk about this. The last thing I need is a bunch of homos picketing us."[33]

In 2012, on KIRO-FM he was asked if he supports gay marriage and replied: "Well, since I’m not gay, the answer to that would be no."[34][35]

He was then asked if he would support legislation to make gay marriage legal and said, “I’m Christian. The answer to that would be no.”[34]

In a confrontational 1988 interview with Sounds journalist Roy Wilkinson, Mustaine said, "If I were President of the United States, I'd build a great wall along the Mexican border and not let anybody in. ... The beauty is gone when you see Americans sleeping on sidewalks and it makes me sick to to think we have assholes in this country letting fucking Mexicans in. Who needs this shit?"[33]

In 1988, Mustaine caused a riot when Megadeth played a concert in Northern Ireland after he "unwittingly" expressed support for the Irish Republican Army (IRA) regarding the problems between Northern Ireland's Catholic and Protestant communities.[37][38]

In 2004, Mustaine said he would vote for President George W. Bush because John Kerry would "ruin our country."[40]

In 2011, he called President Barack Obama "the most divisive president we've ever had. I've never, in my 50 years of being alive, listened to an American president try and turn one class of people against another class of people."[41]

In 2009, Mustaine discussed the influence Alex Jones' films and ideas have had on him and his music.[43] Specifically, Mustaine said that he wrote the album Endgame based on Jones' film Endgame in order "to educate his fans and the general public about the conspiracy behind the march towards global government."[44]

In a March 2012 interview on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, Mustaine restated his support for Santorum, saying, "He just looked like he could be a really cool president, kind of like a JFK kind of guy."[42]

In an August 2012 Singapore performance on the "Thirt3en World Tour" Mustaine expressed his views of President Obama and recent gun violence in the USA, telling the audience "Back in my country, my president," where upon he paused to mimic placing a finger down his throat to induce vomiting, "is trying to pass a gun ban so he's staging all of these murders. The 'Fast and Furious' thing down at the border. And Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there. And now, the beautiful people at the Sikh temple. I don't know where I'm going to live if America keeps going the way it's going because it looks like it's turning into Nazi America."[50][51]
