I think home schooling is okay. We moved out of DC so our kids could go to the local public schools. If I were different I might have elected to stay in DC and homeschool though.
My big issue with homeschooling is I've seen some parents with atrocious spelling/grammar issues that homeschool. I just don't see how an adult that can't write well can teach their children to write well. This, of course, extrapolates to other subjects as well. But if the parent/s are competent in general studies (perhaps an exam to prove they aren't imbeciles?) then whatever they want to teach their kids is fine by me.
I'd agree. Luckily, both of my parents happen to be college educated (despite their fundamentalism) and they were professional teachers before I was born.
