If you want to have fun with them, then by all means find all of the terrible bible verses that they were never taught in Sunday school, but since it seems you'd prefer to just be able to sleep in, I'd have to agree with the putting up of a sign.
However respectful or insulting it may be. Though the more insulting, the more inclined some of them may be to convert you. I'm not from the U.S. but I understand Texas to be pretty intense with its preaching through the streets.
You could always not answer the door, hang that crucifix upside down on the front door, or rig up a 'Ferris Beuller' type of tape recording for when your doorbell rings
