We have real problems in this country and none of them will be solved by praying.

I would take a christian socialist, over an atheist fascist anyday

I'm still paying attention to the lesson the Republicans should have learned over the past few years.

Anyone want to remember the primary reason Bush won the Republican primary in 2000? It came down to him and McCain, but everyone saw him as a better Christian candidate. Know what happened? He fucked up big time.

Then in 2008, McCain got his second chance, but he had to get the Christian candidate for his running mate. Sarah Palin has been nothing but an embarrassment for the Republicans since and she's scaring away independent voters, the ones who decide elections.

This election Michelle Bachman was an early favorite and Santorum nearly won the nomination. Again, their primary credential is that they're good Christians, even if they've fucked up otherwise. This isn't anything new for them, either; anyone remember Dan Quayle? The man wasn't known for being the most intelligent guy out there but he was a heartbeat away from the most powerful office on earth. I fear to think what he would have done had he actually been president.

And on the other hand, Clinton talked about his religion a lot and went to church a lot and, yeah, he was deeply religious. Clinton was a great president and I honestly wish he could run again; I wouldn't hesitate to vote for him, religious or not.

The lesson is: don't pick a candidate based on their religious beliefs. A Christian who can do his fucking job and fix the problems our country is facing is a whole lot better than a clueless atheist.
