I know, some people give with a holier-than-thou attitude, and it makes them look like they really wouldn't give anything if Jesus didn't say to (or thay are just jerks reubbing it in your face). The church is a mixed bag on this one. I volunteered a couple of times to give food to homeless people with a church group, and they weren't demeaning or preachy to the people who came. It is at times like that when I (briefly) wonder if religion can be a good thing. However, I think that if religion were removed and replaced with secular community groups that put the community first (rather than god) they could do just as good (or a better) job. The higher in the church you go (and oftentimes, the more religious you get, in general), the more bigoted and greedy you become. Although god former preached violence and intolerance, Jesus preached love, charity, and forgiveness (if not too much forgiveness...).
