The First Amendment to the Constitution states "CONGRESS SHALL MAKE NO LAW RESPECTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF RELIGION OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF". Now the phrase separation of Church and State is contained in that stupid letter that Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists. But that stupid letter is totally irrelevant to the United States Constitution.
We don't. You show little understanding of the constitution when you say that just because a phrase isn't in it that an idea is not. The first amendment simply describes separation of church and state. The constitution is a secular document, with no mention of God at all. Making no law concerning religion or prohibiting the exercise of it is the DEFINITION of separation of church and state. Learn more U.S. History, it would do you some good.
