Actually, the bible has never explicitly stated that the earth was flat or round. However, passages like this one:
Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
strongly imply that the earth is flat.
One could say that perhaps he showed Jesus a vision of the nations, but this assumption is illogical unless the earth is pressupposed to be round. There is no reason he would have had to take him to a mountaintop to do this, it would be more reasonable to think they were looking down over a flat earth.
