As a christian, how did you handle the problems with the Tower of Babel?

God was afraid that mankind might sneak into heaven.

This was not the reason God confused the languages of man. It was man's goal to build a tower into heaven. God's actions was not to prevent this tower, but the collberation of all men, and what He saw man accomplishing because of this 'colaberation.' Gen 11:6 And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.

God's efforts had nothing to do with Him worrying about man 'seeking into heaven."

So said god as told to DRICH. We call this SPAG. It means "self projection as god."

In the NIV version:
5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

If a bunch of kids were trying to build a tower to reach up onto your roof, and you did something to scuttle their plans by splitting them up and then said that " I had to split these kids apart because together they can accomplish anything they set their sight to", then it is obvious to any non brain dead member of the human race that you were referring to the kids being able to have reached their original objective.

Furthermore, god came down from the heavens, which by the way, is the opposite direction the tower was going up. This also leads credence to the bible author believing that heaven was in the sky and the target for the tower.

Why does god use the plural form here? why does he say "Come, let us go down?"

If it was only 3 or 4 stories high, why would god have cared when he supposedly knew that in about four thousand more years mankind would make it beyond the moon.

Because God knew that given the drive and purpose of man we would have developed faster than we should have. He felt the need to slow us down a little.

I wasn't aware that there was a set speed for mankind's development. Do you have any reference for this or is this just more SPAG?
