Not artificially inflated. Market forces operating as they are meant to; people want pearls so prices are what they are regardless of how disgusting you can make the process sound.

Also, how prideful to speak of ones own words as pearls.

Perhaps I was merely trying to comment on the preposterous nature of assigning such value to them - on the other hand, he's still quoting from a collection of stories from a desert people who wouldn't have seen pearls that often, so I'm pretty sure the value system is still skewed.

That said, I quite like pearls. They're grown, rather than compressed carbon. Diamonds might be a girl's best friend, but there's nothing like seducing your man wearing only candlelight and strands of pearls.
