I'm running on a Sun Drop-induced bit of ADD so someone might have addressed this already and I skimmed over it but...
Do you know for certain that they're going to try and "convert" you or preach to you? What if they just have questions? Or your rant reminded them of why they wanted to spend time with you at all in the first place?
Coming back (Sun drop has almost as much caffeine as an equal weight of coffee, and I've had a lot of it):
The reason I ask is because I put up blasphemous rants all the time and lots of people seem to ignore them, and despite all of my objective measures of my own ability to be humorous (not very likely) they often say "you're funny! I love what you post!". They just praise me privately, or couch it in "let's spend time together!"
