I think the essence of a good joke is walking close to the line of offense without stepping over. I have had that cringe moment of where the comedian walks right on the line so i'm cringing and laughing. Oversensitive is just as bad as no sensitivity. Extremes are never the best places to be.
Glad you feel that way, and me too. Now go work on getting the extreme Christians, Muslims, Jews, and state worshiping nuts of fascism to "take a chill".
Extremes are never the best place to be. But that has nothing to do with the credibility of a claim or if that particular claim has any merit.
I hate Penn Gilette's economic views. But in his book "God No" he, and I agree, says "don't hate religious people", hate "faith". And that "faith" is merely the idea of blindly worshiping anything, state or god, without the ability to question.
I'd add to that, my own quote. "If we never questioned social norms, our species never would have left the caves".
Extremes are when anything gains a monopoly to the point where questioning becomes taboo.
